Silicone versus Laytex Cap - Which is better for triathletes?

Silicone versus Laytex Cap - Which is better for triathletes?
The swimming discipline of triathlons can be overwhelming for some, even if you've been a swimmer before.  Having the appropriate equipment can help you to feel more confident and able to focus on the swimming and dodging of water creatures instead.   For mothers, or men with longer hair, a swim cap is a vital piece of swimming equipment as it helps to reduce drag, keep your hair out of your face, and even keep your goggles from being kicked off.

Latex

Latex caps are cheaper of the two types of caps, are made with latex, extremely stretchable and can last a long time if properly cared for.  These caps are best cared for if dried and stored with baby powder in it.  One of the downfalls is that latex caps can grab baby hairs around the edges of your hair line and can hurt, but this often eases up once you're in the water.   Another downfall is that metal from hair bands or clips can rip the latex easily as it is a thin layer.  This can be especially disappointing if at the beginning or middle of a race. Silicone

Silicone caps have a tendency to slip extremely easily, especially if you are kicked or hit during an open water swim.  This hypoallergenic material is more durable than latex but are also subject to ripping by sharp objects.   Silicone also feel less restrictive than latex. A larger downfall to silicone is the ease of slippage off your head (which is fine when coming on!) and the price, as they are more costly than latex.   Find whichever swim cap works best for you - always test it out before going into a race.  Trim your fingernails and invest in hair bands without metal pieces to avoid cutting your cap.    Recommended Silicone Caps:
